We’re proud to have our shrimp certified by Best Aquaculture Practices, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, Aquaculture Stewardship Council, and the Global Standard for Responsible Supply, among others. We partner with Seafood Task Force for on-the-ground initiatives to improve environmental and social impacts of the shrimp industry. We take action through roundtables with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to engage farmers and reduce the environmental impact of shrimp.

Harvesting and Processing

We invest heavily in quality assurance for our shrimp harvesting and processing practices. We ensure quality, compliance, traceability, fair labor practices, and environmental stewardship. Aqua Star requires raw material tracking for all shrimp plants, farms, hatcheries, and feed mills.

Aqua Star’s goals for the next year are to engage with global Fishery Improvement Projects through ongoing collaboration, expand Best Aquaculture Practices certifications, and move our supply chain towards 100% certified fish meal and oil.

We’re leaders in global Fishery Improvement Projects and are members of the National Fisheries Institute Crab Council. Our sustainability goals for crab are to increase our involvement in Fishery Improvement Projects, improve our social and environmental impact, and ensure the availability of crab for future generations.

We invest heavily in quality assurance for our crab harvesting and processing practices. We ensure quality, compliance, traceability, fair labor practices, and environmental stewardship.

We have strict policies in place to prevent overfishing of crab and to protect the health of crab populations. We adhere to specific crab size requirements demanded by harvesting best practices. We harvest only male crabs. Our verification system guarantees full traceability to ensure that these standards are met. We’re members of the NFI Crab Council, an association of U.S. based seafood companies that sponsor global sustainability projects. Through this council we work with local business, NGOs, and governmental organizations to develop sustainability measures for impact.

Our fish harvesting and processing practices are critical to quality assurance. We ensure compliance, traceability, fair labor practices, environmental stewardship, and quality in all we do.

We work with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a respected non-profit that partners with fisheries to ensure a healthy future for our waters. Many of our varieties of cod, haddock, and salmon are MSC certified, ensuring responsible fishing practices. We have ongoing partnerships with regional Fishery Improvement Projects and grassroots harvester associations to constantly improve our environmental and social impact. Our ongoing goals are to increase our involvement with our Fishery Improvement Projects, drive social responsibility and verification throughout our supply chain, and identify engagement opportunities within our industry for multi-stakeholder efforts.

We’re proud to have our lobster certified by the Marine Stewardship Council, a respected non-profit that partners with fisheries to ensure a healthy future for our waters. Our lobster is also certified by Seafood Watch and SeaChoice, organizations that increase awareness of sustainable seafood practices and initiatives. Our California and Giant calamari varieties are rated by the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch, which helps consumers and businesses choose environmentally-friendly seafood.

We invest heavily in quality assurance for our specialty seafood harvesting and processing facilities. We are committed to quality, compliance, traceability, fair labor practices, and environmental stewardship in all we do.

We have strict policies in place to ensure the purity of our specialty seafood for today and for future generations. For example, our Wild Atlantic lobsters are carefully harvested for minimal environmental impact. Lobster fishermen use an ecologically sensitive approach of single traps, which are attached to lines and then hauled in one trap at a time. This is more labor intensive but maintains the integrity of the ocean floor with minimal disruption.
